The Liquor Plus on Eighth Street in Nanaimo is seen boarded up Friday afternoon after someone rammed a pickup truck into its front window and stole the in-store ATM, according to RCMP.

A liquor store in south Nanaimo suffered damage and a theft early Friday morning after someone rammed a pickup truck into its front window and made off with the in-store ATM.

An alarm company called Mounties to the Liquor Plus on Eighth Street at 3:40 a.m., Nanaimo RCMP told CHEK News.

When police arrived on scene, they found the store’s front window smashed and its ATM missing — an incident one local calls “just crazy.”

“It’s just insane. There are so many resources for people who need money, and just doing this is wreaking havoc,” local Erin Barry told CHEK News.

“It’s so nice down here. It really just surprises me that someone would target this place. Have fun (opening the ATM). It’s just ridiculous.”

At this time, police say they don’t have a thorough vehicle description, including the make or model of the truck, but they believe it would have sustained substantial damage due to the collision.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
