The world’s attention turned away from the pandemic for a time this week to focus on something perhaps even more sinister.

A group of Donald Trump supporters stormed Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C on Wednesday attempting to disrupt the process of confirming Joe Biden’s presidential election win.

One of those watching with rapt attention was an ex-pat, who is living and working here on Vancouver Island.

In this edition of The New Normal, CHEK’s Stacy Ross talks to Jason Colby, a professor and chair of the University of Victoria’s history department, about the events that happened in the United States.

Colby says the events while alarming, were not all that surprising given what has happened over the last few years.
