Black Friday has come and gone.

That means the Christmas and the busy holiday shopping has begun and many local businesses on Vancouver Island are hoping customers will spend less at the big box stores and Amazon, and shop local.

In this edition of The New Normal, CHEK’s Stacy Ross speaks to Jeff Bray, executive director of the Downtown Victoria Business Association, about ways people can support local businesses, particularly online, during the holiday season.

Bray says many local businesses are selling online and customers should search their nearby stores first before simply going onto Amazon.

“We ask people to make that extra purposeful effort, every sale is critical right now for our businesses and our local economy . . . it is going to be very critical to keep our businesses alive.”
