Campbell River RCMP says an extensive operation into drug trafficking has led to charges being approved against ten people.

The detachment adds charges are being recommended for 10 others.

The operation called E-Parody happened in November and December of last year, investigating various levels of drug trafficking in the Campbell River area.

Campbell River RCMP says fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin, morphine, cocaine, and methamphetamine were seized and tested as a result of the investigation.

Police say the fentanyl dosages located in Campbell River were tested and showed levels that were well beyond lethal, adding Carfentanil is approximately 100 times more potent than fentanyl.

Charges have been approved against the following 10 individuals, and RCMP say many of them have previous convictions for drug-related offences:

  • Jesse Tweet of Campbell River has been charged with multiple counts of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance
  • Joseph Russell of Campbell River has been charged with multiple counts of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance
  • Tanya Newell of Campbell River has been charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

  • Barbara Norris of Campbell River has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Jasondeep Johal of Surrey, BC, has been charged with Trafficking Cocaine and the Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking Cocaine and Fentanyl

“This investigation shows, we are not looking at drugs that are contaminated with fentanyl in town. People are knowingly requesting and distributing fentanyl,” Campbell River RCMP spokesperson, Cst Maury Tyre said in a statement.

“What is very concerning is the appearance of carfentanil in tested drug samples.”

Campbell River RCMP are asking anyone with information regarding drug trafficking to call 250-286-6221.
