The West Shore RCMP say officers have caught a suspect who broke into a storage locker at the Elements Casino in View Royal.

In a report issued on Thursday, RCMP says that the incident took place on Sunday, February 7 at approximately 4:40 p.m. in the afternoon.

Officers say they were alerted by a remote security surveillance company that “several individuals were breaking into a storage locker,” which was located on the casino premises.

Police attended the scene, equipped with detailed descriptions of the suspects from the security surveillance company.

Officers note that they were able to locate two male suspects allegedly involved in the break-in, however, further investigation revealed that only one of the men was guilty of a crime.

West Shore RCMP arrested one suspect for break and enter while the other man was released from police custody, according to the report.

“The arrested suspect had numerous outstanding warrants from unrelated investigations in Saanich and Victoria for break and enter, breach of conditions, theft and possession of a controlled substance,” said West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer, Cst. Nancy Saggar.

“The suspect remains in custody and is set to appear in court on February 12.”

Saggar noted that the police were able to arrest the one suspect as a direct result of the quick actions from the security company.

“This serves as a good reminder for anyone witnessing suspicious activity to call it in right away,” Cst. Saggar added.
