Victoria police say a suspect was arrested after allegedly attacking a man with a machete in Beacon Hill Park early Thursday.
Officers were first called to Royal Jubilee Hospital just after 6 a.m. for a report that a man was brought in with severe and potentially “life-altering” injuries to his arm.
Then, police discovered a crime scene in Beacon Hill Park near the petting zoo, learning that the victim’s alleged attacker was known to him— and even drove him to the hospital.
The suspect returned to see the victim at the hospital a short while later and was arrested by police and transported to a holding cell, where they remained Thursday afternoon.
A police dog along with other investigators from VicPD’s major crime and forensic identification units responded to the incident.
The victim continues to undergo treatment for their injuries, police said in a Thursday afternoon news release.
Police say the investigation into the attack remains ongoing and anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to call them at 250-995-7654 extension 1.
