Victoria Police says they have arrested a suspect after responding to a report of a sexual assault Monday night.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday night, VicPD patrol and K9 officers responded to a report that a man had attacked and sexually assaulted a woman on the Galloping Goose Trail.
The woman told police that she was able to fight the man off and called 911. She provided a description of the suspect and more officers went to the area. Police said the woman suffered non-life threatening injuries in the attack.
The officers saw the suspect and chased him on foot.
Police said a perimeter was set up for a search by VicPD K9. The suspect was located and taken into custody by both patrol officers and VicPD K9, police said.
During the arrest, the suspect received non-life-threatening injuries from the police dog, according to VicPD. The suspect declined medical aid, police said, and was taken to a cell.
He is still in custody and the incident is being investigated.
