Substation fault cuts power to more than 7,800 BC Hydro customers in Greater Victoria

UPDATE: BC Hydro says the power has been restored to people in Victoria West, Esquimalt, Saanich and View Royal following a Tuesday outage.

Thousands of people in Greater Victoria are without power Tuesday afternoon due to a substation fault, according to BC Hydro.

The hydro company’s outage list, last updated around 2:40 p.m., says more than 7,800 customers in Victoria West, Esquimalt, Saanich and View Royal are affected.

Ted Olynyk, BC Hydro’s community relations manager, tells CHEK News a substation failing is to blame for the outage. He says it’s too early to know the cause or estimated restoration time.
