The Trans-Canada Highway between Leigh Road and the Westshore Parkway has reopened after a head-on collision that sent two people to hospital with serious injuries on Tuesday afternoon.
According to West Shore RCMP, the two-vehicle crash occurred at 12:43 p.m. between a blue Honda Pilot and a silver Honda CRV on an undivided curve between Leigh Road and the Westshore Parkway. The drivers of both SUVs were the lone occupants in their vehicles and were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The RCMP collision analyst and investigators were at the scene to determine the cause of the collision. Highway 1 was closed near Leigh Road in both directions while the investigation was completed. The highway reopened just after 4 p.m.
“The cause of the collision is under investigation. We are asking for any witnesses of this collision to contact investigators,” Cpl. Chris Dovell of the West Shore RCMP said in a release. West Shore RCMP can be reached at 250-474-2264.
Northbound traffic was diverted via Leigh Road to the Langford Parkway, going west to the Westshore Parkway, turning right and then heading to the Trans-Canada intersection. Southbound traffic was diverted via Goldstream Avenue to Leigh Road and then getting back onto the highway at the Leigh Road interchange.
