Three director seats in Strathcona Regional District will face an election, while one of the seats is acclaimed.

Mark Vonesch has been acclaimed to Area B, Cortes Island. Area A (Kyuquot/Nootka-Sayward), Area C (Discovery Islands-Mainland Inlets), and Area D (Oyster Bay-Buttle Lake) will face an election.

Voters in Area D and those south and east of Mohun Creek in Area A will also vote on school trustees in the Campbell River School District.

Advance voting will take place Oct. 5 and 13 at the Strathcona Regional District office from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. On general voting day, Oct. 15, each area has its own voting locations outlined below.

There is one seat available with two people seeking each area seat.

In Area A, Sarah Fowler will face incumbent Gerald Whalley.

On Oct. 15, voting will take place between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following places:

  • Sayward Heritage Hall, 1257 Sayward Road
  • Village of Sayward office, 652 H’Kusam Way
  • Village of Zeballos office, 157 Maquinna Avenue
  • Tahsis Recreation Centre, 285 Alpine View Road
  • Village of Gold River office, 499 Muchalat Drive
  • Strathcona Regional District office, 990 Cedar Street

In Area C, the incumbent is not seeking re-election. Marc Doll and Robyn Mawhinney are seeking the seat.

General voting place, Oct. 15, voting will be between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Quadra Island Community Centre, 970 West Road
  • Quadra Island Elementary School, 678 Heriot Bay Road,
  • Strathcona Regional District office, 990 Cedar Street

In Area D, incumbent Brenda Leigh is being challenged by John Rice.

Oct. 15 there will be voting from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at:

  • Oyster Bay Resort, 4357 S. Island Highway
  • Ocean Grove Elementary School, 3773 McLelan Road
  • Southgate Middle School, 740 Holm Road
  • Strathcona Regional District office, 990 Cedar Street

In 2018, 2,240 people voted for a turnout of 51.4 per cent.
