Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for east Vancouver Island, from Courtenay to Campbell River and Nanoose Bay.
The weather agency said up to 50 millimetres of rain is expected from Bowser to Campbell River from Thursday morning to Friday morning. Thirty mm is expected near Qualicum Beach.
According to Environment Canada, an unseasonably strong Pacific front is poised to drench Vancouver Island and parts of the south coast beginning on Thursday. The front will tap into subtropical moisture which will amplify the front and help to enhance the rainfall totals.
A special weather statement for west Vancouver Island and inland Vancouver Island is also in effect as heavy rain is expected in those areas as well.
The rain is expected to begin over west and inland Vancouver Island overnight. It is then set to spread to areas of east Vancouver Island from Nanaimo to the Comox Valley and over the Sunshine Coast Thursday morning.
The rain is forecasted to intensify and become heavy on Thursday afternoon before ending Thursday night as the front pushes east. In the front’s wake, there will be showers with a risk of thunderstorms and gusty winds on Friday morning.
