A Vancouver Island First Nation has issued a shelter-in-place order after confirming multiple cases of COVID-19.

Snuneymuxw First Nation says they have been informed that four people have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the number of active cases in their community to five.

Two of the newly identified cases are people within the same household and that one of the cases is unrelated, according to the First Nation.

“The Snuneymuxw First Nation has declared a cluster of active cases and as a result of the classification, we are automatically activating our emergency and safety measures,” chief Mike Wyse said in a letter dated Jan. 1.

As a result, the Snuneymuxw First Nation has issued a shelter-in-place order to members within the community, which will remain in place for 14 days.
