Capital Regional District officials say there did not appear to be a local fire after multiple reports emerged of smoke covering the West Shore Monday.

Langford Fire crews were called to search for a source after many saw and smelled the smoke early Monday evening.

However, firefighters later said there was no fire found in the area and BC Wildfire Service also did not report any new wildfires in the region.

The CRD sent up a drone to search further, but told CHEK News Tuesday morning that nothing was found.

“There does not seem to be a local source at this point but checking will continue today,” a spokesperson said.

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources wildfire map showed a detected hot spot, which is a potential wildfire, near Clallam Bay Tuesday afternoon and evening, with the wind forecast showing wind blowing towards the Juan de Fuca Strait from Washington.

The BC Wildfire Service shows eight active wildfires in B.C. currently, with one of those in the Coastal Fire Centre jurisdiction in Rose Creek, north of Mission.
