Serving success: 6 Island restaurants among best in Canada for brunch

Online restaurant reservation website OpenTable just released its “Canada’s 100 Most Popular Brunch Restaurants Ahead of Mother’s Day” list, and six Vancouver Island eateries are bringing home the bacon.

Several Victoria restaurants, including Boom + Batten, Glo Restaurant + Lounge, The Courtney Room and Vista 18 Restaurant + Lounge, made the nationwide list, while Alpina Restaurant at Villa Eyrie Resort on the Malahat and The Butchart Gardens – The Dining Room in Brentwood Bay also claimed a spot.

“For Canadians looking for inspiration on the best brunch spots, this year’s list, based on more than one million reviews left by verified OpenTable diners, features restaurants from coast-to-coast, spanning five provinces,” according to OpenTable in a news release Monday.

Ontario topped the list with 49 restaurants, followed by B.C. with 29 — including 16 in Vancouver, six in Kelowna and one in Oliver, in addition to the half dozen on the Island. Alberta, meanwhile, had nine, Quebec had eight, and Atlantic Canada had five.

Considering the slew of Mother’s Day reservations last year, OpenTable encourages people to book a table ahead of time for brunch on May 14.

“In 2022, over half of Mother’s Day reservations (54 per cent) were booked four days in advance, suggesting diners should book by May 9 this year to increase their chances of snagging mom’s favourite table.”
