Seaspan Victoria Shipyards has announced plans to consolidate its South Island operations at a new 85,000 sq.ft. facility in Colwood.

Seaspan Victoria Shipyards has announced plans to relocate and consolidate its South Island supply chain operations at a new 85,000 square foot facility in Colwood.

The facility, located in Colwood’s Allandale District and owned by Omicron Development, will include office and warehousing space.

The project is estimated to cost $26 million and Seaspan says that upon approval of the development application, 90 construction jobs will be created over the next 1.5 years as well as 44 long-term jobs at the new Seaspan Victoria Shipyards location.

Colwood Mayor Rob Martin said he his “thrilled” to be adding Seaspan into the Colwood community, while hinting there could be more companies moving to the area in the future.

“We look forward to it being the first of many announcements for the 20-acre Allandale District which will expand Colwood’s tax base and create jobs for residents close to home,” Martin said in a press release.

Omicron will be in charge of building the custom-designed space on a parcel of land that spans across 3.95 acres within the mixed-use development.

“The growth and complexity of Seaspan Victoria Shipyards’ long-term customer contracts have increased our need to consolidate sourcing and management of materials for vessel repair, refit and conversion projects,” said Joe O’Rourke, Vice President and General Manager of Victoria Shipyards.

“We look forward to leasing a superior set of warehouse buildings at Allandale District to support our growth in the maritime sector.”

Currently, Seaspan Victoria Shipyard’s “team of logistics and procurement professionals” has operations in three offices.

The company says that materials are spread across four warehouses in the Victoria area, as well.

The new 85,000 sq.ft. facility will be located off of Veterans Memorial Parkway, near Sooke Road.

According to a realse from Omicron, the Development Permit application meets all requirements under the property’s existing M2 land-use designation and does not require rezoning.
