Suspect sought after security guard slashed in arm at Uptown Walmart

Saanich police have released a description of a suspect wanted in connection with an incident at the Uptown Walmart.

Saanich police have released a description of a suspect after a security guard was slashed in the arm at the Uptown Walmart on Saturday.

At around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 28, police were called to Uptown mall for a report of a stabbing. According to Saanich police, officers learned a security guard from Uptown Mall had confronted a suspected shoplifter leaving Walmart.

The suspect allegedly slashed the security guard on the arm then fled on a BMX-style bicycle. Police said the security guard sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

On Monday, based on new information, police released a description of the suspect. He is described by police as a Caucasian man with a fair complexion and short dark hair. He was wearing glasses, a red hat and dark clothing. He was carrying a black backpack and riding a bike.

Police said they continue to investigate the incident and are waiting for CCTV footage.

Any witnesses that may have been at or near Uptown mall on Dec. 28 at around 10:30 p.m. that either saw the incident or the suspect is asked to call Saanich police at 250-475-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
