A motorist was clocked going extremely fast – 185 km/h to be exact – on a highway in the Greater Victoria Area last week.
According to the Saanich Police Department, an officer on a motorcycle caught a sedan going 105 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 17 (Patricia Bay Highway) south of Royal Oak Drive shortly after 5 p.m. on Oct. 8.
The speed limit along that stretch of highway is 80 km/h.
Police did not provide details about the vehicle, but a photo tweeted out by the department shows what appears to be an Acura TL pulled over by the motorcycle officer.
While that kind of speed might be acceptable on the Autobahn in Germany, it isn’t acceptable Vancouver Island.
As a result, Saanich PD issued the motorist a $483 fine, plus three demerit points, and impounded the vehicle for seven days.
If you’re travelling 105 kph over the speed limit, it’s not surprising you didn’t see the motorcycle officer you passed.
$483 fine plus three points on the driver’s record. 7 day impound if it’s for a first offence plus towing & storage costs – at least $210. pic.twitter.com/nWIVNhBcUw
