A fire at a duplex on the 4000-block of Magdelin Avenue was extinguished by fire crews in Saanich Sunday morning.

Multiple units from the Saanich Fire Department responded around 8:15 a.m. and arrived to find a significant fire in the back of the building near the deck area.

The flames had already spread to the ceiling, but crews were able to quickly put out the blaze.

The building has sustained significant damage, forcing some of the residents out of their home.

No one was injured, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Just hours before Saanich crews responded to another fire, on the 1400-block of Alan Road near Camosun Interurban.

A bark mulch fire had flared up, and posed a significant wildfire risk.

Crews also quickly extinguished the blaze, and no one was injured in the incident.
