The KEDC creates, operates and supports businesses that will be profitable and environmentally sustainable, while respecting the cultural values of the Gwa’sala ‘Nakwaxda’xw people at the same time. It was created in 2014 to grow opportunities for the community and develop the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations’ economy.

The company oversees a number of businesses in multiple sectors, including tourism, accommodation, construction, forestry, fisheries and marine transport.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and lockdowns were put in place, the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations was confronted with the potential devastation of their economy.

Singh discusses in this episode the challenges the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations faced throughout the pandemic, how they overcame them, and what’s needed to help the community recover.
