In this week’s segment of Road to Recovery with Douglas Magazine, CHEK’s Jasmine Bala chats with Jennifer Keesmaat, CEO of the Keesmaat Group.

The Keesmaat Group is a team of senior-level urban planners who work with corporate and political leaders to advance solutions in the global housing affordability crisis and adapting to the changing climate, according to its website.

The team is made up of experts in the planning, design and implementation of “large-scale transit projects, the planning and delivery of pilot projects, economic development, municipal approvals, heritage planning, small- and large-scale civic engagement processes, senior leadership development, and municipal and provincial government processes.”

Jennifer leads the Keesmaat Group, along with her team of city-building experts, with an aim of advancing cities of the future by building liveable, sustainable cities.

Keesmaat spent five years as Toronto’s chief city planner. She is on the Advisory Board of the Urban Land Institute, Toronto, and is appointed to the International Panel of Experts, Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority.

She is a keynote speaker at Rising Economy Week, a conference about Greater Victoria’s economic future, taking place Nov. 22 to 25.

Keesmaat discusses in this episode what changes she’s seen in urban design and planning over the past decade, the housing affordability crisis on Vancouver Island, and what her vision is for cities of the future.
