One male is in custody following two homicides near Uptown Shopping Centre that “appear to be related,” according to Saanich Police and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.

Saanich Police officers blocked off a section of Bethune Avenue between Cloverdale Avenue and Saanich Road Wednesday morning and, in a subsequent news release, warned commuters to expect delays when in the area.

“At this time, investigators feel there is no risk to the public. More information is expected to be released later,” Damian Kowalewich, D/Sgt. with Saanich Police, said in the release.

Video footage captured by CHEK News around noon showed heavy police presence surrounding a home in the 3400-block of Bethune Avenue.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
