Health Canada says the Canadian Tire Master Chef BBQ igniter has been recalled for not meeting lighter regulations.

Health Canada says the Canadian Tire Master Chef BBQ igniter has been recalled for not meeting lighter regulations.

Health Canada says a recall has been issued for a particular barbecue lighter from Canadian Tire because the product does not meet regulations and may pose a fire or burn risk.

The recall came Wednesday for the Master Chef BBQ Igniter lighters, that are refillable with an adjustable flame height feature and are 285 millimetres long with a grey handle and black barrel.

The issue for the lighters:

  • may exceed the allowable flame height during ignition;
  • may exhibit an abnormal, sudden increase in flame height; and
  • may continue to burn after the trigger mechanism has been released.

Health Canada says the company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries as of last Friday.

The recalled lighters were manufactured in China in February of 2016 and sold across Canada, with 52,596 purchased since May 2016.

If you bought one of these recalled lighters, Health Canada advises you to stop using it immediately and return to the store for a refund.
