RCMP investigating after woman found dead on Inland Island Highway near Parksville

According to a BC RCMP press release, a woman in her '20s was found dead in the grassy median of the Inland Island Highway, north of exit 51, near the Alberni Highway interchange.

Law enforcement is searching for an unknown vehicle following a fatal hit and run near Parksville Saturday morning.

According to a BC RCMP press release, a woman in her ’20s was found dead in the grassy median of the Inland Island Highway, north of exit 51, near the Alberni Highway interchange.

The press release did not specifically mention how the woman died, however, a spokesperson with Central Island Traffic Services told CHEK the woman was wearing dark clothing and appeared to have been struck and killed by a vehicle that did not remain on scene. They also said the incident was first reported at 9 a.m. by a passing motorist.

North and southbound traffic along the Inland Island Highway was being detoured throughout the day as an investigation into the incident was conducted.

BC RCMP said both the Central Vancouver Island Traffic Services and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (CARS) continue to investigate the incident.

No description of the suspected vehicle involved in the incident was provided.
