RCMP are responding to an active shooter in a small Nunavut community

After the RCMP warned the small Nunavut community of Clyde River of an active shooter Thursday morning, police say they now have the alleged shooter in custody.

RCMP say officers responded to an active shooter in the small Nunavut community of Clyde River Thursday morning.

A short news release from police advised all residents to remain in their homes until they were told they could leave.

There is still no word on whether anyone has been hurt.

Resident John Corkett says he heard gunshots about 9 a.m., but didn’t think anything of it because people are often shooting at animals in the area.

Clyde River has a population of about 1,000 and is on the northeast shore of Baffin Island.

More to come. Updated 10:55 a.m. December 17.
