RCMP looking for public's help with investigation into Duncan fire

Investigators are asking for the public’s help as they look into a fire that badly damaged a home on Allenby Road in Duncan on Monday.

RCMP officers spotted the flames while responding to another call in the area around 7:00 a.m.

“The two police officers ran to the house and forced the doors open in attempts to locate anyone inside. In this short timeframe, the house became fully engulfed with smoke making it extremely dangerous for anyone to enter the house.” a press release reads.

Duncan Fire Department crews arrived on scene and managed to extinguish the flames.

The lone occupant of the home was not there at the time.

The RCMP and a fire investigator with the City of Duncan are in the early stages of an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

RCMP are asking any dash camera footage taken in the industrial area near Polkey Road and Allenby Road between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. on the morning of Monday, September 16th.

If you have information that could help the investigation, call North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 or Cowichan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
