The Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a tire slashing spree that took place over the course of two days this week.

Police say that between Jan. 12 and Jan. 14, they received ten different reports from vehicle owners about their tires being slashed.

In a press release, RCMP say that in almost every case, the tires were completely destroyed.

Investigators say that the incidents occurred overnight at various locations throughout central Nanaimo. Areas that were targeted included Country Club Drive, Ross Road, Bournemouth Road, Meredith Road and Boxwood Road, according to police.

Investigators determined that in all cases, the vehicles were parked on the street in front of homes, condos or apartment buildings.

According to police, in each instance, either one or two tires on the same side of the vehicle were slashed by a sharp object.

Officers say there have been no suspects or witnesses that have come forward at this time.

Total damage of the slashings is estimated by police to be in the thousands of dollars.

“These events are absolutely senseless and have caused considerable financial strain to many. Vehicle owners were also tasked with making alternate arrangements to get to work, finding rides for their kids to school and having to replace their tires,” said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Anyone with information on any of these incidents is being asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2021-1490.
