The investigation of the death of a 20-year-old Ahousaht First Nation man has resulted in the arrest of a suspect, police say.

Clifton Alec Johnston, 20, was found deceased on a sidewalk out front of the Port Alberni Friendship Center, located in the 3500-block of Fourth Avenue, in the morning hours of March 27.

His death was ruled a homicide one day later after investigators disclosed that he had been stabbed in the chest.

On Wednesday, Port Alberni RCMP announced that investigators have not only identified, but arrested a suspect in the case.

However, additional details about the suspect cannot be disclosed at this time as charges have not yet been approved by Crown, according to the detachment.

“This is believed to be an isolated incident where the suspect and victim were known to each other, however, the Port Alberni RCMP General Investigation Section is appealing for witnesses,” Insp. Eric Rochette of the Port Alberni RCMP said in a press release.

Anyone with information is asked to call Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424.
