If you live in Colwood’s Royal Bay neighbourhood, you won’t have to go very far for your groceries for much longer.

Island-based grocery chain Quality Foods has announced plans to open a 35,000 square-foot store in Royal Bay.

Shovels are expected to hit the ground later this year, with a completion date set for mid to late 2022. Once completed, it will be the company’s 14th location.

“We’re really excited to be able to be a part of this location. It’s an area that we’ve looked at and been looking at for a while,” said the Quality Foods vice-president, Justin Schley.

The new store will be slightly smaller than their View Royal location, but shoppers can expect the same look and services they’re used to at other locations, according to Schley.

“It’ll have a lot of similar characteristics as View Royal, our Langford location, and . . . our new Parksville store,” he said.

Quality Foods first opened in 1982 in Qualicum Beach and has expanded across Vancouver Island.
