Qualicum Beach sees 31st year of Seaside Cruizers' Show and Shine

It’s billed as Vancouver Island’s largest annual car show, and this year, the Seaside Cruizers Society held its 31st Show and Shine in Qualicum Beach.

Organizers had 567 cars registered for Sunday, but with late-day registrations, the society’s president believes more than 625 cars arrived, which is above average.

An estimated 30,000 people descended on Qualicum Beach’s downtown to take in four events during the weekend.

“I think that people just love the cars, and they love nostalgia, and if you get a really beautiful day, they just love to come together,” said Jim Moroz, president of the Seaside Cruizers Society.

Moroz says part of the reason the Show and Shine attracts so many entries is that it accepts cars from any era.

The society tracks where the entered cars come from.

“They’re from all over the Island, Vancouver, as far away as Alberta this year and as far south as Oregon,” said Moroz.

Last year, the farthest away vehicle came from Arizona.

“It’s the perfect event for dad. Dad’s love cars, the kids come out,” said Moroz.

The proceeds from the car show are donated to charities such as food banks, Canadian Tire Kick Start and backpack and school lunch programs.
