British Columbians can have their say on a proposed flyover project along a Vancouver Island highway.

The provincial government is seeking feedback on a proposed flyover overpass at Patricia Bay Highway (Highway 17) northbound at Keating Cross Road.

Currently, motorists travelling northbound on Patricia Bay Highway are required to left crossing the southbound lanes onto Keating Cross Road across traffic. The flyover would eliminate the left turn across highway traffic.

The provincial government says the overpass project would also result in a realigned southbound on-ramp to Highway 17 and would support “future” rapid bus transit along the busy roadway.

“The proposed flyover overpass project and associated upgrades will allow people to travel this busy corridor more safely and efficiently while helping to promote regional economic growth,” the province said media release Wednesday.

Preliminary geotechnical work on the flyover overpass project at Keating Cross Road began last year. The project is expected to cost over $20 million, with the federal government kicking in $16.7 million and the District of Central Saanich is contributing $2.5 million.

Construction is expected to start sometime later this year.

Feedback is being accepted until March 24. To leave feedback and for more information on the project, click here.
