Oak Bay police says a suspect of multiple thefts was arrested after allegedly stealing from another vehicle early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the 1700-block of Foul Bay Road just after 5 a.m. Sunday for a report of a theft from a vehicle, as the complainant noticed a laptop and cell phone had been taken.

Officers along with a K-9 unit attended and tracked the suspect from the residence to a cell phone that had been stolen.

A woman was located and identified as a suspect in similar previous thefts.

Police say she was arrested for theft, obstructing police and found to be in violation of a conditional sentence order.

Oak Bay authorities say she is the subject of several theft charges as well as breach of a court order.

“We hear many theories about how to leave a vehicle but wish people would simply comply with our evidence-based advice to leave their vehicles locked with all items removed,” Oak Bay Deputy Chief Ray Bernoties said in a statement.

“Owners who do this are very unlikely to experience a theft or a broken window. In fact, we have had very few, if any, reports over the last several years. A broken window, invariably means the suspect could see something they wanted inside the vehicle.”
