In a video posted to his new royal Instagram page, Prince Harry speaks about the decision to step away as a senior member of the royal family with his wife.
The video shows Harry at an event for the charity Sentebale, which supports the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people affected by HIV.
“I can only imagine what you may have heard or perhaps read over the past few weeks. So I want you to hear the truth from me, as much as I can share, not as a prince, or duke, but as harry,” he said.
“The same person that many of you have watched grow up for the past 35 years, but now, with a clearer perspective. The U.K. is my home, and a place that I love that will never change.”
He continues.
“The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one that I have made lightly,” he said.
“It was so many months of talks, after so many years of challenges. and I know I have not always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other options. we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you.”
The prince also said that carrying on their duties without public funding wasn’t possible, and that the two were hoping for a more peaceful life, but are promising to continue a life of service.
On Saturday a statement from Buckingham Palace said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, will no longer use their “royal highness” titles or taxpayer money.

It came after Prince Harry and Meghan announced they planned to “step back” as senior members of the royal family — after a Christmas vacation the family spent on Vancouver Island.
