Port Alberni RCMP say they arrested a man and recovered the money he is accused of stealing in two robberies in the city.

Police says 30-year-old Jared Dallen Stein remains in custody and has been charged with two counts each of robbery, disguise with intent and flight while pursued by a peace officer.

Officers responded to an armed robbery report in the early morning hours of March 11 at the 7-11 store on Redford Street.

A masked suspect entered the store and brandished an edged weapon at an employee, demanded money, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

In the late evening hours March 12, Port Alberni RCMP says a masked suspect entered the Best Western Barclay Beer and Wine Store on Stamp Avenue, and again demanded cash.

The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of money and drove away.

Police say the suspect was caught within half an hour after the second robbery and was identified as the person responsible for both robberies.

No one was injured in either robbery.

RCMP say Stein’s next court appearance is set for April 3.
