Upcoming blood donation clinics scheduled in Port Alberni are now happening in Nanaimo due to the Cameron Bluffs wildfire.

The wildfire and subsequent Highway 4 closure have resulted in the cancellation of the June 27-29 donation event in Port Alberni, according to Canadian Blood Services in a notice.

While the event will be happening on the same days, this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, it will instead be from 12-6:45 p.m. at Nanaimo’s Beban Park Social Centre at 2300 Bowen Rd.

“(We) need all those who are eligible to come help us fill the open appointments,” reads the notice. “Spread the word, invite a friend or family member, bring a colleague.”

Those looking to book an appointment can visit this website, download the Give Blood app in the Apple or Google Play stores or call 1-888-236-6283.

The Cameron Bluffs fire, discovered on June 3, is estimated to be 229 hectares and resulted in Highway 4 closing for several weeks. It reopened to single-lane alternating traffic on June 23.
