The West Shore RCMP is investigating after a black pickup truck allegedly hit a red sedan twice along the Trans-Canada Highway on Thursday evening.

Police say a red Hyundai Elantra was heading north along the highway around 5:30 p.m. when the crash occurred.

The car was in the 1900-block of the Trans Canada Highway when a black pickup truck that was driving behind it came up alongside the Elantra and “collided into the driver’s side twice.”

Police say the driver of the black truck briefly stopped, but left the scene before exchanging information with the other driver.

“Though the occupants of the Elantra were physically unharmed the vehicle sustained significant damage,” said Mounties in a release Friday.

RCMP describe the driver of the black pickup truck is a Caucasian man in his 40s with grey, collar-length hair. He was wearing a blue and white polo shirt and shorts at the time of the crash.

“This hit-and-run took place during rush hour and not only impacted the victim but had the potential to put other motorists in harms way,” said West Shore RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Nancy Saggar.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has dashcam video of the area between 4:45 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., is asked to contact the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.

Tips can also be sent anonymously to Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-8477.
