The male was taken to hospital.

West Shore RCMP says in a release Friday morning they believe this is a targeted crime, and a possible male suspect was located and arrested by Sooke RCMP.

However on Friday afternoon, Staff Sgt. Jeff McArthur from Sooke RCMP said a man had been arrested and released on promise to appear for breach of probation.

According to Sooke RCMP, at 1 a.m., Sooke RCMP set up a road check around the 5500-block of Sooke Road following a shooting. Then at approximately 2:10 a.m., officers checked a Ford SUV going west. The vehicle was being driven by a 53-year-old woman from Victoria. In the back seat, officers saw a man slumped down and not wearing a seatbelt. Police said the man, a 22-year-old from Victoria, identified himself.

Police said officers discovered he was the subject of a firearms prohibition and as he stepped out of the SUV, an officer noticed ammunition protruding from his pants pocket. The officer tried to arrest the man and he fled on foot eastbound on Sooke Road, turning up Woodlands and stopping in a property in the 5800-block of Blytwood. Police said he was combative and a Taser was used.

The female driver was also arrested on outstanding warrants out of the West Shore detachment. The man is set to appear in Colwood Provincial Court on June 27.

Officers remain at the residence and West Shore RCMP said the investigation continues. Const. Nancy Saggar, media relations officer with West Shore RCMP, said officers are still looking into whether the man arrested by Sooke RCMP has any connection to the shooting.

Police say no other people were reported to be injured in the shooting.

More to come.
