Police ask for cellphone or dashcam video taken in area of fatal shooting in Nanaimo

Police in Nanaimo are asking anyone who may have cellphone or dashcam footage taken in the area of an apparent targeted shooting in Nanaimo on Jan. 13 to contact them.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, 34-year-old Troy Dax McKinnon was found just before 11 a.m. in the parking lot of Hawthorne Corner Apartments at Wakesiah Avenue and Second Street. Police said McKinnon was known to them.

Now, police are asking for anyone with audio or video recordings, specifically any cellphone or dashcam footage taken in the area of the shooting between the evening of Jan. 12 and noon on Jan. 13 to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.

This one piece of evidence could be extremely useful to investigators who are attempting to advance this priority investigation, Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP said in a release.
