RCMP say two teens were taken to hospital after a pickup truck driver hit them while they were walking along a marked crosswalk in Colwood on Wednesday evening.

Police say they were called to the intersection of Latoria Boulevard and Ryder Hesjedal Way around 6:19 p.m. for a report of two pedestrians being hit by a car.

West Shore RCMP officers, as well as firefighters and paramedics, attended to the scene.

The two pedestrians, both aged 19, were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Mounties say they determined that the Nissan Frontier pickup truck was waiting at a red light at the intersection. When the light turned green, the driver made a left turn through the crosswalk, hitting the two pedestrians who had the right of way.

Police say the driver of the truck told officers that they did not see the pedestrians.

The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield to pedestrians. Mounties say they have ruled out speed and impairment as factors in the crash.
