Oceanside RCMP is searching for the potential owner of a large sum of cash that was found in a donation item at the Parksville Salvation Army.

According to police, a large amount of cash was found by staff following the donation of a charity item at the store located at 109-192 Island Highway West in Parksville.

The cash was found by employees on February 15 after handling an item donated on the same date.

Staff at the store believe the cash may have been inadvertently left in the item and the money has since been turned in to the police.

Oceanside RCMP is turning to the public and asking if anyone donated the item and unknowingly left cash within it, they can contact police.

Any person wishing to claim the cash must be able to provide identifying details confirming ownership, says Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP.

Oceanside RCMP can be reached at 250-947-6537.
