Over $700 in fines issued after unlicensed driver caught speeding 67 km over limit in Oak Bay

The Oak Bay Police Department has issued multiple fines and impounded the vehicle of an unlicensed driver who was caught travelling 67 kilometres over the speed limit.

The incident occurred last week on Tuesday, May 4, at approximately 11:00 p.m. in the evening when a frontline officer was conducting traffic enforcement.

The Oak Bay PD officer was located in the 2300-block of Cedar Hill Cross Road when they heard the revving of an engine and observed a vehicle rapidly approaching.

The officer’s radar scanned the vehicle moving at a speed of 117 km/hr on the neighbourhood street near the University of Victoria. The speed limit set in that area is 50 km/hr.

A traffic stop was conducted and, after a police search, records showed the driver was unlicensed.

A seven-month driving prohibition was issued to the driver for their actions. Additionally, a violation ticket of $276 was issued to the driver for having no license and an excessive speeding violation, totalling $483, was issued as well.

Oak Bay Police impounded the unlicensed driver’s vehicle for seven days as a result of the violations.
