Sook fire on scene of a suspected fatal accident on Sooke Road

Sooke Fire Rescue on the scene of a fatal head-on collision on Sooke Road

A man in his 40’s has died following a head-on collision with another vehicle in the 5900 block of Sooke Road Friday.

The exact cause is still under investigation, but police say witnesses reported the mans Dodge Caravan was travelling westbound when it crossed over the double solid line and collided with the Jeep SUV travelling in the eastbound lane.

The first RCMP member arrived on scene just after 4:20 p.m. and attended to the male driver. BC Ambulance services arrived shortly after, but the driver had succumbed to his injuries.

A woman was in the other vehicle and was extricated by Sooke Fire Rescue using their hydraulic equipment.

She was transported to hospital and later released.

The vehicles were removed around 10:15 p.m. but the road remained closed as BC Hydro and road crews cleaned up the area.

The collision caused a substantial traffic delay, but a detour was put in place.

The two drivers were the only ones in their vehicles.

Sooke RCMP are working with the BC Coroner’s Service and Traffic Services to determine contributing factors in the collision.

No charges are being considered at this time.
