Oak Bay house makes move to new home on Salt Spring Island

An Oak Bay house was loaded up and carted off on Wednesday night, headed to some farm land on the Southern Gulf Islands.

People stopped to watch as the home left its original spot on Bowker Avenue.

It was transported down Monterey and on to Oak Bay Avenue towards the water.

Crew could be seen lifting power lines to make sure the structure proceeded safely.

James Connelly of Nickel Brothers on Vancouver Island says the house will be put onto a barge and taken to Salt Spring Island.

“Building is getting quite expensive on the islands and also builders are really busy,” he said

“It’s hard to find good builders in a timely fashion, so this gets people over the fence a lot quicker than starting from scratch.”

Connelly says the company is moving a second Oak Bay home to the same area later on Wednesday.
