Victoria's Kerri Butterworth is celebrating her recent Lotto Max win.

A Victoria mother says she’s still shocked beyond words after winning nearly half-a-million dollars off Lotto Max in October.

“My head was shaking, I was speechless,” Kerri Butterworth told the B.C. Lottery Corporation, recalling the moments after she had found out she was $474,526.70 richer thanks to the Oct. 4 draw.

After purchasing her winning ticket from the Westshore Town Centre on Jacklin Road, Butterworth was at home having her morning coffee when she decided to check her numbers, according to the BCLC.

“I still have no words…I’m trying to wrap my head around it!” she said. “I usually look at the results first online, and that’s when I saw there was a winner in Victoria. I was in shock…I didn’t think I was reading it right.”

The first person Butterworth told about her big win was her youngest daughter, whose initial confusion quickly turned to excitement.

“I woke her up and at first, she thought she was in trouble. I had her look at the ticket and she freaked out!” Butterworth recalled.

As a major Yankees baseball fan, the local mom plans to put part of her prize toward a trip to see them play, while also using the winnings to pay down her mortgage and help out her daughters and parents.

So far in 2022, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $158 million from Lotto Max — a nationwide lottery game drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays after 7:30 p.m., with winning numbers posted online and on the BCLC Lotto! app.
