A casino in the District of Saanich isn’t in the cards, after all.
After being pushed back a week because of a full agenda and time constraints Apr. 26, Saanich council debated a motion to further explore the development of a hotel, entertainment and casino complex in Saanich.
The motion was denied with a unanimous vote.
BREAKING: There will be no Casino in #Saanich!
A casino is not part of my Vision for Saanich and in my conversations with the public it is not part of their vision either.
I am glad council voted to focus on inclusive prosperity, housing 4 all, & community vibrancy initiatives

More than a year ago, the B.C. Lottery Corporation (BCLC) sent a letter to Saanich indicating it was ready to go “all in” on a new casino, but the matter was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
BCLC has been seeking to build a new casino and entertainment complex in the Capital Regional District for years. Although Saanich had expressed interest in the idea back in 2015, Victoria was selected by BCLC as the preferred site for such a venue until that city’s council opted against engaging with the corporation.
