Toronto is the only Canadian city on Amazon Inc.’s short list of 20 candidates for a second North American headquarters.
The Seattle-based on-line retail giant said it carefully reviewed 238 applications before narrowing the candidates down to 20.
Metro Vancouver and Langford were among Canadian hopefuls. The province kicked in $50,000 to help Vancouver prepare its bid.
Amazon is promising to invest US $5 billion and create tens of thousands of new jobs in the location that is chosen to host its second headquarters.
Among those on the short list are Toronto, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, New York, Miami and Atlanta.
Amazon says it will make a final decision later in 2018.
