The campaign to re-elect Justin Trudeau is scrambling to react to emerging photos and videos showing the Liberal leader in racist makeup.

A new video has emerged that is the third instance of Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau wearing black or brownface many years ago.

The Liberal Party is confirming the authenticity of a video first revealed this morning by Global News that shows a young Trudeau in the 1990s in blackface, sticking out his tongue for the camera and raising his arms over his head.

Last night, Trudeau apologized profusely after Time magazine published a picture of him taken in 2001 at an Arabian Nights party at a Vancouver private school.

The photo depicts Trudeau, who was attending an “Arabian Nights”-themed gala event, wearing an elaborate turban and robe, his face, hands and neck blackened by makeup.

“It was a dumb thing to do,” the prime minister said during an emergency news conference on board the Liberal campaign plane before taking off for Winnipeg.

“I’m disappointed in myself, I’m pissed off at myself for having done it. I wish I hadn’t done it, but I did it, and I apologize for it.”

He also admitted he wore makeup during a high-school talent show.

The photos and video are expected to dominate talk on the campaign trail today.

Trudeau has campaign events scheduled in Winnipeg and Saskatoon on Thursday .
