Acting federal treasury board president Carla Qualtrough was on Vancouver Island Wednesday to announce funding from Ottawa for transit improvements in Greater Victoria.
The federal government will be contributing $4.92 million to a southbound bus-only lane between the Burnside overpass on the Trans-Canada Highway and Tolmie Avenue in Saanich. It will run parallel to the northbound lane, which finished construction last year. BC Transit estimates the lane has reduced travel times by 10 minutes.
The B.C. government is putting $11.08 million toward the $16-million bus lane. Planning for the project will begin this spring.
