Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement in regards to heavy fog hitting the northern parts of Vancouver Island.

The weather agency has indicated that “near-zero visibility” conditions are to be expected as a result of fog settling in over the region on Friday morning.

The widespread fog developed overnight and is expected to persist through until the mid-afternoon on October 2.

“Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero,” reads a statement from Environment Canada.

The agency highlights that advisories for fog specifically are sent when the conditions hit the near-zero visibility level or when Environment Canada anticipates the weather to cause sight issues.

The advisory was last updated on Environment Canada’s website at 10:40 a.m. on Friday morning.

Advisories can be monitored online and the weather agency will continue to update forecasts accordingly.
