Nanaimo RCMP is warning the public about a recent COVID-19 text scam.

Nanaimo RCMP is warning the public about a new COVID-19 scam that has recently surfaced.

Police say a fraudulent COVID-19 test message indicates it is from the Emergency Relief Fund with information that $1375.50 has been deposited into the text receiver’s bank account.

Nanaimo RCMP says it is a scam and do not respond, but rather text or delete it.

Authorities advise you share the information with family and friends to ensure they are victimized by the scam.
