Nanaimo RCMP are calling on the public for help to identify a man who’s alleged to have stolen a necklace worth $5,500 from a local jewelry store.
In a news release Monday, Mounties provided photos of the alleged thief wanted for stealing the 26-inch 14-carat gold necklace from People’s Jewellers at Woodgrove Centre on June 27, 2022.
Employees told investigators that the suspect walked into the store shortly before 1:30 p.m. and, after looking at several items, tried on the necklace before fleeing with the jewelry still around his neck.
The man is described by police as Caucasian, standing approximately 5’5″ with a slim build and dark, greasy hair. He was wearing a dark medical mask, a K2 stone hat, a pink sweater and grey shorts at the time of the theft.
RCMP say video surveillance shows the man getting into the passenger side of a blue vehicle, possibly a Kia, shortly after the theft.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
